The packaging of consumed foods can be divided into convenient food, puffed food, pastries & biscuit, dairy product & baked goods, candy & preserved fruit, meat product, pre-made food, roasted nuts, frozen food,health care, grain & oil, sauce, wine & beverage, tea & instant drink etc.

2. Packaging Requirements

(1) High Oxygen Barrier: Food has high fat content, which is easily oxidized and deterioration, resulting in bad smell and taste and decreasing its nutritional value. So the food packaging must be high oxygen barrier. What's more, dairy products contain a lot of protein, which would be break down into nitrogen source by microorganism, resulting in the fast growth of bacterium. So it is required a packaging with high oxygen barrier to inhibit the microbial proliferation.

(2) Light Resistance: Vitamin B2 in dairy products can be broken down by light into lumiflavin which is a strong oxidizer and easy to product odor and reduce the nutritional value of the dairy product.

(3) High Heat Sealability: The food packaging is required high heat separability because it would pollute the heat seal interface and affect the sealing strength when filling the dairy products.

(4) Good Sealing: If the packaging pouch is broken or there’s a gap in the heal seal, the water and oxygen would seep into the pouch, resulting in food spoilage.

(5) High Peeling Strength: The peeling strength between the laminate layers is low, even delaminated, which would weaken the material integration of all layers, such as heal-sealing strength, tensile strength and impact strength etc. Easily result in poor use when the packaging suffers external force.

(6) High Impact Strength: The packaging pouch would be broken, especially heal seal broken, when a fall occurs. So the packaging film is required high impact strength to prevent the damage in transportation and storage.

(7) Good Heat Resistance: It is required thermal sterilization after filling the dairy product, so the packaging must have good heat resistance to ensure that the physical strength of the package will not decrease significantly.

(8) Suitable Friction Value: When high speed filling, the film roll would run off or slip if the friction value is too small; or the film rolling resistance would be too high if the friction value is too big.

(9) Good Thermal Viscosity: When filling, the flowing liquid has an impact force on the lower seal, and the hot sealing edge will form a V slot, resulting in a high break package rate.
